The Ten Miler

While this is no shock to some, running is something I love.  Since we moved down to the beach I decided to run each morning on the beach. 4 months later I'm fighting off my first sports related injury ever! Nevertheless, I'm back to running on the pavement after learning that soft sand, while it can be kind to your knees, can be cruel to your stride. Hence the blog title above, today is my first ten mile run at the beach (pavement of course). What I've learned about running on the sand:

  • It is about the body weight location on a foot during the support time
  • No push off from the ground, and particularly forward. This one could cost you extra muscular tension and soreness later on with no positive impact onto your running
  • Move forward by leaning, not by pushing
  • Pull the foot from the ground
  • Keep high cadence and do not worry about stride length
